This page is for people in our community to express themselves and let our community know who they are and some of the interesting things they do.
I will start with myself as an example and put the latest contributor after that
Some of you do interesting things; some are musicians, some may be poets, some have interesting recipes, some may write short stories, some might be artists and crafters, some may be sailors some may be hotrodders‘, some may have been politicians elected to high office, and some have had interesting travels and adventures in the world.
I’m sure you do! I listened to them on my many long conversations on the front porch of all my friends and I enjoyed listening to the stories they told about their lives.
Most of us have lived a long and sometimes adventurous life and we would like to hear it, share it, and get to know you better.
If you need help I can help you write up the article, photograph or video what you need.
I am on the Board of Directors of the Victoria Camera Club and I contribute to the club by writing articles for the club in their magazine.
I also make drone videos and post them on YouTube. The Horticultural College of the Pacific ask me to do a video for them for them to use in their promotional material.
Below is some of the work I do:
I am also on the Board of Directors of the Saanicton Village Association. I write their newsletters and did most of the work on their website.

Greetings from Up Island!
In the autumn of 2019 I moved up island to help friends age in place and reclaim their property from over a decade of overgrowth and neglect. It meant leaving Central Saanich Estates, the very best neighborhood I have ever had the pleasure to live in. It was supposed to be for life. Once the work was done and all my savings invested in repairing and rebuilding everything, the adult children (who weren’t here for their parents for two years) moved into the restored & working property and evicted me. It all has been quite a lesson and learning experience.
2020 saw Covid-19 turn the world upside down and inside out. Everyone was self isolating and misinformation spread faster and deadlier than the virus itself. The place I was going to work at, closed, and I couldn’t get anyone to come help me build my Tiny House on Wheels.
So… I built it alone, improvising and creating jigs to replace people. I put thousands of hours, gallons of tears, buckets of sweat and a fair amount of blood into the project and in September 2020 I moved into my self built home — 300 sq.ft. tailor made in every way to suit me. It won the 1st place People’s Choice Award in the Habitat for Humanity Upscale Competition. It was built to the newest International Building Code Standards and is Red Seal Certified for its plumbing, gas fitting and electrical, passing its inspections with flying colours. It is completely off-grid, producing its own solar electricity, using a water catchment system, and utilizing a French Drain filtration system for the grey water. It uses a composting toilet and makes no black water waste. It IS the house that Carol built.
When I lived in Central Saanich Estates a few residents knew me as a friend, a few knew I was a board member, but almost no one knew WHO I am.
